Perhaps a remnant of Temple’s commuter-school ties, many local food trucks pull the brakes on business Friday night, turning engines off until school resumes Monday. You may not have classes on Saturdays or Sundays, but one thing’s for sure: You still need to grab lunch somewhere. Here are some trucks you’ll want to visit on your oh-too-short weekend:
U Got Munchies
This small, fried-food hub outside Tomlinson Theater is a go-to spot on Saturdays. You’ll find the usual: sandwiches, wraps, burgers. But you’ll likely find your mouth watering over the 1/2 lb. burgers and loaded fries. This new addition to Main Campus is open Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
E&E Gourmet
Don’t let this truck’s window display fool you: Pizza isn’t the only thing going for this truck. You’ll find a slew of breakfast options, hot and cold sandwiches and fried foods. Pass up food at the Student Center on Saturday morning for something from E&E. The truck, situated on Montgomery Avenue, between Broad and 13th streets, is open Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Richie’s Deli
Richie’s has become a Lunchies legend. The deli’s been serving Temple’s students and faculty since 1975 and has historically drawn hungry students with its breakfast, cheesesteaks and pizza. And it doesn’t disappoint on the weekends, either. Located on the 12th Street Food Pad Vendors, Richie’s is open 5 a.m. to about 3-4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Susan’s
A true weekend truck champion comes in the form of Susan’s, on 12th Street across from Anderson Hall. The often overlooked truck is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The truck’s 83-item menu offers salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and omelets.
