General Assembly directors were picked at the meeting yesterday.
The General Assembly voted for Temple Student Government cabinet positions at its meeting yesterday, April 16. Candidates gave short speeches before ballots were cast.
Candidates for the TSG directors of academic affairs, campus life and diversity, local and community affairs, recruitment and retention and university pride and traditions were uncontested.
Candidates had nominated themselves or were previously nominated by at least two people. Those not present at the meeting forfeited their nominations, leaving the opportunity for candidates from the floor to run on the spot. Cabinet members are expected to work at least 10 to 15 hours each week on TSG agenda.
Current TSG Auditor General Jillian Kochis kept her position, while TSG Campus Life & Diversity Co-Chair Audrey Allen won the director seat.
Jaclyn Boone defeated Rebecca Mutek for TSG director of Grounds and Facilities, 79 votes versus Mutek’s eight, after Mutek ran from the floor.
TSG Web and Social Media Manager Brandon Warech was elected TSG director of student affairs, earning 50 votes compared to Jazmyne Anderson’s 24 votes.
Robert Kost received 73 votes against Hined Rafeh, who received 24, for the position of speaker of the General Assembly, the last position voted on at the meeting.
Kost ran to the podium, to the excitement of the General Assembly, stating, “Well this is a race, so I thought it appropriate to come up here and run.”
The General Assembly took more consideration in voting for speaker of the general assembly than for most positions. Kost has engaged with TSG directors and committees during General Assembly meetings throughout the year.
TSG Chief of Staff David Lopez, also TSG student body president-elect, announced that applications for allocations chairs for next year are currently open. Lopez said TSG plans to have three chairs next year as opposed to the current solitary position.
“We want to revamp [the allocations process],” Lopez said.
