This holiday season, there are several ways that the gift of giving can be shared in Philadelphia. Whether it is small or big, the gift is going to a child in need. Below are some of the organizations hosting toy drives in the area.

Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office

New and unwrapped toys are being accepted for children 18 months to 16 years old. Donated toys may be placed in the toy drive box located in the lobby of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office at 3 S. Penn Square from Nov. 17 until Dec. 8 at 5 p.m.

2011 Stocking for Kids Toy Drive

Sixteen years ago Stockings for Kids was founded by B101 and the Salvation Army. In 1996, the first year the program went into effect, more than 15,000 stockings were filled by local community members, totaling $160,000 in donations. This year hundreds of schools, businesses and families from the Delaware Valley are participating in the 2011 program. Interested participants can either donate a toy, or order and fill stockings. Filled stockings can then be dropped at the numerous drop-off locations throughout the Delaware Valley.

Chamber Orchestra Toy Drive

In partnership with Cradles to Crayons, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia will host a toy drive during its concerts on Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m. and Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Its performance of the “Toy Symphony,” hopes to encourage the audience to donate a toy or item of clothing this holiday season. Cradles to Crayons provides low-income and homeless children in the Greater Philadelphia region with basic necessities.
