The men’s tennis team entered Thursday’s match against La Salle off of a 5-1 win in conference play last week against Connecticut.

Transitioning from a conference rival to a city rival, the Owls dominated La Salle 6-0 in what was the team’s fourth straight victory.

“It was a pretty dominant performance by the guys,” coach Steve Mauro said.  “They did what they had to do.”

The win was the fourth straight for Temple, and earlier in the winning streak the Owls took down another city rival – Villanova.  Mauro said he’s sensed his team has never had problems getting up for matches another other Philadelphia schools.

“We always look forward to playing any of the city schools,” Mauro said.  “We feel like we have something to prove every time we step on the court against a Big 5 team.”

The win was also the eighth for Temple in its last 10 matches as the Owls now sit at 8-10 on the season after starting the year 0-8.

“We’re peaking at the right time,” Mauro said.

Temple has three regular season matches left before heading to Memphis for the American Athletic Conference tournament.  The first of those final three regular season matches comes on Saturday when the Owls travel to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy.
