Owls cap perfect weekend in win

After narrowly winning the first set, Temple cruised to the 3-0 win against Tulane on Sunday.

Temple wrapped up a successful weekend on Sunday afternoon, defeating Tulane University, 3-0.  The Owls improved to 14-6 overall and 5-3 in the American Athletic Conference.  The first set on Sunday was a battle with Tulane and close throughout, with Temple ultimately pulling it out, 25-23.

Coach Bakeer Ganes said he was happy with the way his team handled the tense period early on.

“That was a pretty good test,” Ganes said. “It certainly helped that we were able to win the first.”

The Owls were able to win sets two and three by scores of 25-16 and 25-20, respectively, but Ganes thought his team played with the same composure throughout the entire duration.

“I thought we were relaxed from the start but it was just a little more competitive in the first set,” Ganes said.

While Tulane entered Sunday’s match at 5-14 overall, the Green Wave had a 3-4 record in The American coming into Sunday and could have pulled even with Temple in the conference standings with a win.

“They’re a completely different team than they were two weeks ago,” Ganes said.  “You cannot underestimate anybody in this conference.”

With eight conference matches in the books, six of which have been on the road for Temple, the Owls 5-3 record in The American has Ganes confident, especially after a statement over the weekend with two wins on the road.

“It’s always nice to win on the road and if you can manage to win two [in a weekend] then that’s really good,” Ganes said.
