Coming off its loss to Villanova, Temple began its Texas road trip with a match-up against Southern Methodist – a team that stood at fourth in the American Athletic Conference standings.
The Owls fell to the Mustangs 75-52 on Thursday night, as Temple dropped to 1-8 in conference play.
The Owls won the tipoff, but after a Quenton DeCosey missed three, SMU’s Markus Kennedy’s dunk gave his team a 2-0 lead within the first minute of action – a lead the Mustangs failed to relinquish for the full 40 minutes of action. SMU started the game with an 18-8 run, capped off with a Nic Moore jumper.
At halftime, the Mustangs led the Owls 32-20.
The second half didn’t get any better for Temple. SMU took a 20-pointn lead with 10:57 remaining in the half, and the Mustangs later led by 27. Five Mustangs scored in double figures including Markus Kennedy and Shawn Williams who each scored 14 points.
Dalton Pepper led the Owls with 15 points, while Anthony Lee posted his 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Temple will next face Houston on Sunday at 2 p.m.
