RAW, an organization well known around the country, has made Philadelphia the latest stop on its list.
RAW was created for artists, by artists, in order to give them greater opportunities to showcase their work. The show is known around the country, and has even expanded to places outside of the United States. On Sept. 24, RAW will come to Philadelphia to give local artists a chance gain exposure and showcase their latest work.
“RAW Philly gives artists a front seat exposure to demonstrate their creativity, their artwork and just who they are as a person,” Miss Philadelphia 2013 senior Francesca Ruscio, said. She is the host of this year’s show.
The show isn’t just one form of art, it includes everything from fashion design, photography, mixed media, jewelry, trash art and music.
“My job as the host is to make sure they receive that front seat exposure, as I announce them on stage, introduce the acts and just make sure everyone is having a great time,” Ruscio said.
During her time as Miss Philadelphia, Ruscio learned about community service and promoting the talents of others.
“I learned a lot about how to fundraise and promote, verses take in for vanity,” Ruscio said. “I learned to put others before myself.”
In previous years dance wasn’t as prominent as it will be now. There will be full dance troops and some musical performances that involve dance.
“I’m really excited about the fact that for this show we have multiple dance troops and dance numbers happening,” Amber Keller, the director of RAW Philly, said. “We have some music acts that incorporate dance, and also four other acts that are strictly dance troops.”
As far as art goes, there will be a pop-up art gallery with sculpture, mixed media, trash art and even artists painting live. The styles of art differ from abstract to more realistic.
At every RAW show there is always several different music selections. In previous shows they have had everything from hip hop artists, to acoustic performers, to full blown rock bands.
“This time around we have some R&B, and also a band, it varies for each show.” Keller said.
The finale of this year’s show will include a runway show and designs from five different fashion artists. Keller said that a lot of hard work and quality effort has been put in by all.
“It’s great that we don’t have very many limits on our show, so we can work with artists to see what they want to show and how they want to portray themselves,” Keller said.
