Shooting west of Main Campus leaves off-duty officer dead

A 19-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department was shot several times just after finishing up his tour of duty at the 22nd District.

Philadelphia Police officer Moses Walker Jr. was shot to death Saturday morning shortly after leaving work, police said.

Police said that at 5:56 a.m., Walker, 40, was shot several times around 20th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The 19-year veteran worked in the 22nd District, which is headquartered at 17th Street and Montgomery Avenue, and had finished up his tour just before the incident.

$30,000 in awards have been announced so far by the city and the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police for the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
