After failing to get drafted in the WNBA Draft on April 19, senior forward Athena Christoforakis still has hopes of playing professional basketball. Christoforakis is currently entertaining offers from several teams overseas, she said. Christoforakis is leaning toward playing in Greece, but has received offers from other teams, including one in Spain.
Speaking of drafts, the NBA Draft is approaching. The draft, held in late June, should include at least one Temple player. Senior Lynn Greer is a projected second round pick by most publications. Teammate Kevin Lyde improved his draft stock in a recent camp and will need to make an appearance in the final draft camp in Chicago to make a lasting impression on NBA scouts. Greer was also recently named Big 5 Most Outstanding Player of the Year.
Temple baseball’s junior pitcher Mike Caron was named this past weeks’ Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week. Caron threw a complete-game shutout against UMass in a 7-0 win last Sunday. The baseball team has won three-straight games, including its recent 6-5 win over Drexel last Tuesday. Temple (15-19) has been relying on help from the bullpen. They will host a weekend tripleheader against Fordham at Erny Field.
Temple softball (21-22, 10-5) saw its 11 game win-streak come to a halt with a 2-1 loss to Rhode Island in a doubleheader the Owls split last Saturday. The Owls then went on to drop the series finale, 2-1, on Sunday as they were held to three hits.
The Temple men’s crew varsity eight captured its 10th straight Murphy’s Cup Regatta last Saturday. The team beat second place Dowling by nearly six seconds.
Junior golfer Jon Rusk snagged the A-10 individual golf title in the A-10 Championships last weekend at the Penn National Golf Club. Rusk is the seventh Temple golfer to claim an A-10 individual title. Temple took third place overall and finished three over par at 866.
