This week’s teach-in

A weekly teach-in to discuss current political issues is held every Friday by Professor Ralph Young and students in his Dissent in America class.

This Friday is the final teach-in of the semester, and will be a special two-hour event from 3:00-5:00 in the History Lounge (Gladfelter 914) combining the teach-in with an end-of-semester party.

Feel free to bring cookies or snacks or sodas (pizza will be provided), along with your usual provocative and scintillating conversation.

Professor Young will be doing a presentation on “Dissidents and Big Brother: History of American Dissent and Washington’s Response, 1845-2003.”

The teach-in will focus on specific responses to anti-war activity such as Thoreau’s arrest during the Mexican War, Lincoln’s suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War, the Sedition Act during World War One, as well as an update on Patriot Acts I & II.
