The Owls (18-10, 9-7 American Athletic Conference) snapped their three-match losing streak at Connecticut (13-18, 4-12 American Athletic Conference) on Sunday, as they swept the Huskies by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-20.
This is the second time this season that Temple has swept UConn. Senior Elyse Burkert and sophomore Sandra Sydlik collected double-doubles during the match, and senior Gabriella Matautia tallied a match-best 17 kills.
During the first set, the Owls trailed by five points before making a come back. The second set was much closer – at one point Temple led by 19-18. But a strong closing stretch led by Matuatia and Iacobini helped the Owls clinch the set.
The Owls trailed in the third set 12-11, after which they went on a 5-1 run that gave them a lead they wouldn’t look back from.
Temple will return to McGonigle Hall on Wednesday to face South Florida in the penultimate match of the season.
