ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Temple men’s basketball team took advantage of La Salle’s slow start and established a 43-35 lead over the Explorers at halftime of their Atlantic Ten Conference Tournament quarterfinals match-up.
The Owls jumped out to a 9-0 lead as the Explorers missed their first seven field goal attempts and didn’t make a basket until sophomore Yves Mekongo Mbala scored on a put back at the 16:05 mark.
Junior guard Dionte Christmas scored 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting in the opening stanza. The other half of the “one-two punch,” senior Mark Tyndale, added 11 points and grabbed six rebounds before intermission.
For the Explorers, Darnell Harris and Rodney Green each scored 10 points in the first half.
