I cannot imagine how my life would have turned out had it not been for The Temple News. But I do know this: It would have been significantly – if not entirely – different had I not joined the staff my first day at Temple in September 1974.

I was a freshman who was blessed – and in some ways, cursed – to be The Temple News’ Temple Student Government beat reporter.

I was thrilled and honestly a little bit surprised when I was invited to join the staff at The Temple News. I had no idea what it would entail, but I hadn’t taken part in many activities on campus, other than playing roller hockey my freshman year.

I was on the phone with a source during the Fall 2003 semester, discussing a decision Temple had made, which my source said he thought was particularly stupid.
