Monsters Inc., Pixar and Disney’s latest computerized animation is a witty and enjoyable film that will appeal to anyone looking for laughs and great entertainment.

Behind every closet door lurks an ominous monster waiting to scare a young boy or girl. These monsters are trained by Monsters Inc., whose catchy slogan (“We Scare Because We Care”) motivates them to catch children’s screams to fuel the city of Monstropolis. Unfortunately, Monstropolis is in the midst of a scream shortage, as children desensitized by television and movies are not scared so easily. Two star employees, Sulley (superbly voiced by John Goodman) and Mike Wazowoski (Billy Crystal), must strive to keep the city afloat. Ironically, these monsters are afraid of humans.

The Child Detection Agency’s (CDA) main goal is to keep Monstropolis safe. They pride themselves on keeping the city contamination-free. This safety record is broken when a young toddler lands in the hands of Sulley and his partner in crime, Mike. The young toddler and Sulley, who call each other ‘Boo’ and ‘Kitty’ respectively, become quickly attached. Despite his feelings, Sully knows that Monstropolis is no place for a little girl, especially when Randall (Steve Buscemi), Sulley’s nemesis, is devising plans to become the top scarer by any means necessary.

Monsters Inc. works on so many levels. The film is a stunning combination of a great script and outstanding visuals. Most notably, Sully looks surprisingly real. In addition, everyone young and old can remember pulling the cover over his or her head and having a gut feeling of not being alone in the bedroom.

While Shrek is an adult movie presented in a children’s format, Monsters Inc. is definitely a children’s movie but will not disappoint the older audiences.
