Community assistants at The Edge are running donation programs that extend beyond the usual resident events that are held weekly. The CAs are required to organize events and in the past have held a food drive.
Currently, The Edge is running donation programs and accepting school supplies and clothing. The donated clothes are being given to a local Goodwill store, and the school supplies are going to various elementary schools in the area.
Programs like these are run monthly at The Edge, and February’s programs are just beginning.
“We’re just giving back to the community,” CA Chris Flournoy said. “We want to do our part.”
Flournoy, a sophomore finance and real estate major, estimates that there has already been around 100 clothing items donated.
Residents who take part in the programs will receive various incentives in return for their contributions. Those who donate at least three items of clothing receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a free dinner and an appointment with a masseuse. Donating two pieces of winter clothing earns a free breakfast provided by The Edge on Feb. 17.
Edge resident Jim Gilbert, a sophomore business major, donated clothing to the drive. “I didn’t wear them, so it just made sense to do this” he said.
Participation in these events comes with added incentives, but Gilbert said that he was just “looking out for other people.”
All donations are still being accepted at The Edge office. Flournoy thanks all of those who have participated.
“All the donations are appreciated,” he said.
