La Salle
Record: 14-14. 8-6 Atlantic Ten Conference, 2-1 Big 5
The Explorers’ winning streak continued with a road win over Fordham, 83-78 Wednesday. The streak came to a halt, however, in a 91-85 loss to visiting Rhode Island Saturday. They visit Massachusetts Wednesday before ending the regular season with a home against Temple.
Penn
Record: 11-16, 6-4 Ivy League, 0-4 Big 5
The Quakers went 1-1 this week. They defeated Yale, 70-63, Friday, but dropped their game to Brown, 75-43, Saturday. The 32-point loss was the worst in Ivy League history. Against Brown, Penn senior guard Brian Grandieri was perfect from the line and behind the arc, connecting on 2-of-2 three pointers and free throws. Penn hosts Ivy Lrague champions Cornell Friday and Columbia Saturday. They wrap up their season at rival Princeton on March 11.
Saint Joseph’s
Record: 17-9, 8-5 A-10, 2-2 Big 5
In a tight Atlantic Ten Conference race, the Hawks are locked in a four-way tie for third with Richmond, La Salle and Massachusetts. Saint Joseph’s dropped two crucial league games to Saint Louis, 64-55, Thursday and to Temple, 57-56, Sunday. Against Temple, senior guard Pat Calathes shot 8-for-8 from the free throw line but hit just 3-of-14 shots from the field. The Hawks host No. 9 Xavier Thursday and visit Dayton Saturday to end their regular season.
Villanova
Record: 17-11, 7-9 Big East Conference, 3-1 Big 5
The Wildcats’ NCAA Tournament hopes turned bleak as they dropped two straight league contests to No. 25 Marquette, 85-75, Monday and to No. 13 Louisville, 68-54 Sunday. They shot just 22.7 percent from three-point range against the Cardinals, as Scottie Reynolds was 0-4 and Corey Stokes was 1-6. Villanova is now tied for sixth place in conference with Seton Hall and Syracuse. They host South Florida Wednesday and visit Providence Saturday to wind down the regular season.
