Mathias Nkwenti switched to offensive line before last season for the Owls; he may stay at the position in the NFL.

Nkwenti is expected to be drafted in this weekend’s NFL Draft. Nkwenti is a 6-foot-4 293 pound offensive tackle who played defensive tackle in his first three years at Temple.

Coach Bobby Wallace switched him over to the offensive side of the ball before last season. Nkwenti had a good enough season to earn a trip to the Kelly Tires Blue-Gray All-Star game, for the nation’s brightest seniors not in bowl games.

According to team sources, Nkwenti has received attention from the New York Giants as a possible second round draft choice.

Nkwenti put in a great showing at the NFL combine with numbers closing in on the top rated tackles in the draft. Nkwenti’s numbers were better than Florida’s Kenyatta Walker, the top rated tackle in the draft, in all but one category.

A native of Cameroon, Africa, Nkwenti came to this country when his father, a diplomatic representative, was assigned here. He didn’t start playing football until his junior year in high school but found success when he did.
