Vibe Live, an event that will feature music, art and poetry, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 9 p.m. at World Cafe Live, which is located on 3025 Walnut St.
The main purpose of this event is to raise money for Philabundance, Philadelphia’s largest food bank.
Martha Buccino, vice president of Strategic Development at Philabundance, said she is happy to have this event raise money for the organization, especially during the Thanksgiving season, when the organization is most active.
“The money raised will go to people who have difficulty in putting a holiday meal together,” Buccino said. “This event gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of what we can do for people in need.”
Philabundance, according to its Web site, has been serving the Delaware Valley since 1984, and has provided over 60 million meals to needy people.
There is no cost for admission to this event; however, suggested donations will be accepted at the door. All money raised will benefit Philabundance.
Members of Temple’s Public Relations Student Society of America coordinated the event. Junior Chris Anderson said he thought the concept of a hip-hop, benefit show would not only impact college-aged students, but also Philabundance.
“The format of the event developed out my personal interest in promoting positive, forward-moving music while helping the community at the same time,” Anderson said.
Headlining the event is Philly native Cee-Knowledge and the Cosmic Funk Orchestra. Cee-Knowledge’s Digable Planets first hit the scene in the early 90s with unique hip-hop vocals. In 1993, he won the Grammy Award for “Rap Duo or Group” and a nomination for “Best New Artist.”
Vibe Live will also feature several other styles of music. DJs Primetime and Ambush will be spinning hip-hop, funk and soul music.
Various artists will have their artwork displayed for sale and some will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Philabundance. Spoken word artists will also be on hand to give the audience a taste of poetry. Also available is a large selection of records for event-goers to browse and buy.
