A non-Temple student has been arrested in connection with the assault that occurred Nov. 1 in Anderson Hall, Philadelphia police announced at a press conference today.

Steven Holmes, 18, of the 1900 block of North 11th Street will face charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, attempted rape, and criminal trespass among multiple other related offenses due to a positive DNA match linking him to the crime scene, according to a press release.

“An investigation led us to the residence where he was,” Detective Bureau Chief Inspector Keith Sadler said.

Police said Holmes has been in custody since Nov. 16, when he was detained on an outstanding arrest warrant issued following his escape from a juvenile detention facility, according to WPVI-TV reporter Sarah Bloomquist. Details of his juvenile record have not been released.

He was subsequently taken into custody by the Special Victims Unit on Dec. 3.

Sadler said the Philadelphia Police Department will continue to work closely with Temple Police.

“Temple University has an excellent [police] department,” he said.
