Running game, turnovers lead Owls to first win

The football team won its first game of the season Saturday, a 37-13 victory against the defending Mid-American Conference Buffalo Bulls. The Owls rushed for 198 net yards on 40 carries and caused five turnovers.

The Owls once again fell to the Nittany Lions, this time losing, 31-6 at Beaver Stadium. They are now 3-35-1 all-time against Penn State.

Redshirt junior Vaughn Charlton and redshirt sophomore Chester Stewart battled for the top quarterback spot on the depth chart from spring practice throughout most of August. On Football Media Day, coach Al Golden finally ended the quarterback competition and named Charlton the starter for Thursday night’s game against Villanova.
