In Philadelphia the fun never stops. Although classes are in session, summer is still here! If you are looking for some outdoor entertainment be sure to check out The Awesome Fest’s Awesome Summer Series at the Piazza at Schmidts, 1001 North 2nd Street.
Founder Josh Goldbloom creator of this event, which runs through September features prominent SXSW, Tribeca and Sundance films as well as Hollywood films. Every Thursday, until Sept. 15, Awesome Fest will feature films of different genres. This past Thursday, Sept. 1, an official selection from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival titled “Shut Up Little Man: An Audio Misadventure,” was featured.
“I’m new to the neighborhood and one of my friends who I work with said that they do screenings so I thought it would be a cool community event to go to,” said Charley Dorsaneo from Dallas, Texas. “The movie sounds a little weird.”
Next week, Sept. 8, another Sundance Film Festival selection “The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975,” featuring Philly’s ?uestlove will begin at 7:00 p.m. Afterwards, there will be a special panel discussion hosted by The Awesome Fest. The panel will include moderator, Nicole Gilles and panelists, Gregory Walker, Dr. Molefi Asante (Temple’s Chair of the African American Studies Department), Michael J. Dennis and Chill Moddy.
The last film of the summer, “The Turkey Bowl,” will be held Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
