As we toil and stress out during the week, we all anxiously wait for the weekend to relax. If you’re not catching up on last minute papers or visiting the family, then weekends in the city are a blast as long as you know where to go.
Shopping is always as option and with the upcoming holidays, it’s the perfect time for shopping, despite the weather. Lisa Thompson, a sophomore who lives on campus, loves to go shopping on weekends.
Urban Outfitters, located on Walnut Street or at the Penn Campus is one of her favorite shopping spots. “It’s kind of expensive but the clothes are so cute,” Thompson said. H&M is also a shopping option that’s less expensive.
For movie lovers and the economically challenged, the Temple Cinema is a perfect spot. Its $1 admission with your GAF card fits into everyone’s budget.
A great theater within the city is the Roxy Theater on Sansom and 20th Streets Recently they featured a movie dedicated to George Harrison.
Cosi, a cute little coffee shop where you can make S’mores on a portable grill is another great spot to chill on the weekends. With seven convenient locations in the city, there’s no excuse for not enjoying this local treasure. They offer all of the essential sweet-tooth cravings in addition to soups, salads, sandwiches and much more.
Sophomore Maria Atubiga likes to stay near campus and go to parties or campus events. However, she does recommend a restaurant called Bluezettes, a soul food restaurant in Olde City, Philadelphia. Located at 246 Market St., they serve up some of the best Caribbean and Soul food in the city.
By now winter has reared it’s ugly head and there’s nothing better than the warmth and energy of a crowded concert. Frank Ross loves going to concerts in the city. His favorite venues are TLA and The Trocadero.
Kevin Topolski, a freshman likes to go ice skating at the Penn Campus, which is a surefire way of getting into the holiday spirit.
So don’t just sit in your dorm this Friday night. Explore the city and see what’s out there. There are so many cool places to visit. Have fun and don’t forget to study for finals!
