Coming off a busy homecoming week, Temple Student Government held a relaxed meeting on Monday.
The General Assembly meeting featured an overview of National Coming Out Week events and a review of the student discount cards.
TSG Student Body President David Lopez opened the meeting by discussing the discount cards and how they will be distributed. Lopez said that from Friday, Oct. 5 to Monday, Oct. 8, TSG had distributed a large amount of the 15,000 cards.
Students are still able to obtain a student discount card through TSG and are strongly encouraged by TSG to sign up for Temple Advocates Legislative Outreach Network, which works for funding at Temple.
This week, TSG along with the Residence Hall Association, Queer Student Union and Dynasty & Babel are hosting events for National Coming Out Week. The events kicked off Monday night with an official launch party at the Temple Performing Arts Center.
A panel discussion on gender roles and stereotypes within the LGBT community and a drag show on are also scheduled for this week.
The week’s events conclude with National Coming Out Week festival at the Bell Tower and Come Out, Speak Out in the Underground on Thursday.
National Coming Out Week celebrates individuals who publicly identify themselves as a member of the LGBT community.
