Scoop de Ville is the kind of place you could only dream of as a child. Painted a vibrant pink, the walls of the sweets shop are covered in photos of the family who runs the place, bright packages ready to hold whatever confections you wish to take home to loved ones, and a few seasonal decorations. In a couple words, it’s tactfully tacky.

Scoop de Ville’s motto, “Life Is Short, Eat Dessert First!” is displayed front and center on one wall. Cute tables and chairs sit off to the side, often full of people. But the most amazing decorations of all are the wall-to-wall sweets.

True to its name, Scoop de Ville is known first for its ice cream. Over the main counter hangs a large chalk board boasting the hundred or so ingredients one can use to make their dream ice cream. If you’re confused about just what to order, the friendly people behind the counter will be obliged to help you decide. To the left, a case contains dozens of different types of cookies and candies, most of them covered in chocolate. Several kinds of boxes, baskets and other wrappings are available for you to take home some of these sweet treats as a gift, if you like. The freezer case also holds several other delicious desserts.

Hungry yet? Scoop de Ville at 107 S. 18th St. is open everyday until 10 p.m., and it’s the perfect place to go to as a family, on a date or just as a place to sit down with friends after shopping. It’s often busy and gets a bit crowded, as it’s a rather small establishment, but not so much that you feel uncomfortable. It’s more of an intimate, fun atmosphere. These things, among other reasons, are exactly what make Scoop de Ville where you need to be.
