Man shot near Health Sciences Campus

No arrest has been made following Friday morning’s TU Alert.

A man was shot during an attempted robbery on Westmoreland Street early Friday morning near the Health Sciences Campus. The 46-year-old man, unrelated to Temple, who was shot was approached at 1220 Westmoreland St. at about 12:26 a.m.

Police sent a TU Alert to students at about 12:40 a.m.

The alleged shooter told the victim to hand over “everything he had,” said Charlie Leone, executive director of Campus Safety Services.

The man told police he then saw the assailant had a gun, which he fired, hitting the victim in the buttocks. The shooter then fled the scene in an unknown direction. No arrest has been made.

The victim was treated at Temple University Hospital and listed in stable condition, Leone said.

The victim said the shooter was an average build, between the ages of 30-35 and wearing dark clothing.
