Have a taste for art and restaurant deals? Every first Friday of the month, Philadelphia’s galleries open their doors to anyone looking to satisfy their artistic sweet-tooth for free, of course.

This column is here to provide you with details on gallery and museum owners who are doing something unique for their First Friday receptions.

Between the hours of 5-9 p.m. on Sept. 2, 3rd Street Gallery, Painted Bride Art Center, F.A.N. Art Gallery, Muse Gallery, Projects Gallery and Artists’ House Gallery are a few premier spots showcasing new exhibits.

“Open Field,” an exhibit by Jean Plough will feature abstract landscape paintings, word paintings and diptychs created using oil on linen and acrylic on canvas. Shirley Thomas will have her small, mixed-media sculpture “One Part Plaster” on display. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12-5 p.m..

Painted Bride Art Center  • 230 Vine St.   •  www.paintedbride.org

The Painted Bride Art Center will be invaded with the artwork of InLiquid Art & Design artist Nikolay Milushev, as he showcases his new work entitled: “Hope For a Better World.” The artist, who originates from Haskovo, Bulgaria creates “complex, large-scale works,” according to InLiquid. The collection being shown at Painted Bride features pieces from his past two collections, “Virtual Millennium” and “World in Distress.” According to InLiquid the show is intended to “shine light on hope itself, reminding us of its glistening possibilities that exist even within times of despair.” This show will run through Oct. 29 with an additional reception on Oct. 7, from 5-7 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12-6 p.m..

Are you busy switching from mask-to-mask to simply get by day-by-day? Projects Gallery will be presenting a juried group exhibition, “Mascara (Mask)” to unravel the many masks we all adorn– whether they be figurative or literal. According to the event listings on their website, this Projects Gallery exhibition is meant to gather a “compelling and varied group of artists who capture the use of the masks in contemporary society.” This show will run through Sept. 24.  Regular gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 12-7 p.m..

Artists’ House Gallery  • 57 N. 2nd St.  •  www.artistshouse.com

Artists’ House will be welcoming four new faces into their gallery with an opening reception to showcase their unique and fresh oil paintings. Gallery one will  present Henry Berkowitz and Patrick Seufert, gallery two will showcase Lauren Gidwitz and Aaron Thompson, gallery three will feature Alice Dustin and gallery four will present Brian Burt and Deborah Placko. If you find yourself caught up at other galleries along the way, there will be a follow up reception Sept. 11 from 1-4 p.m. featuring classical guitarist Marisol Rampolla. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12-5 p.m., or by appointment.
