A native of Pittsburgh, Dieselboy has been living in Philadelphia since 1997 and performing on Platinum Thursday nights at Fluid since February of 1998. He was offered Thursday nights at Fluid and agreed to be a resident headliner because he was given full control over Platinum’s production.

“It’s something I’m proud of. I do Platinum for free as my contribution to the locals,” he said. “It’s my way of showing that I support Philadelphia drum ‘n’ bass.”

Although Dieselboy makes a conscious effort to be at Fluid every Thursday night, other opportunities can take him away. On his busy schedule, he could be traveling to perform anywhere from Russia to Japan.

For Dieselboy, DJing is both a job and a dream come true. He refers to DJing as a job when he has to travel all the time. He admits that constant travel can be lonely and often takes away from his social life.

The stresses of being a famously talented DJ sometimes manifest themselves in his dreams, or rather nightmares. In these nightmares, Dieselboy is afraid that he won’t or doesn’t make it to a gig, because he doesn’t know where he is booked and he misses his flight. Another recurring nightmare is when he shows up at a party and he doesn’t have any records or he has all the wrong records.

For now, Dieselboy is taking his found fame and fortune, equipped with all its stresses and glories, in stride. When confronted by an overzealous fan or is given a five-day-paid vacation in Hawaii, “it just seems funny, like you’re having a dream.

“I just try to keep it in check. This is something that is going on right now and in 10 years I might not be doing anything related to this. People might get bored of me. But for now I’m enjoyin’ it. No regrets.”

    Platinum is every Thursday night at Fluid, 613 S. Fourth St., 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. (21+, ID required)
