TRACK AND FIELD The team had a strong showing this weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. The meet, held at the New York Armory, pitted the Owls against some of the nation’s top competitors.

The team had a strong showing this weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. The meet, held at the New York Armory, pitted the Owls against some of the nation’s top competitors.

The men’s 4×400 meter relay team improved their time by eight seconds, finishing 23d in 3:24.83.

The Owls had two strong performances in the 500-meter dash, as well. Freshmen Jason Sullivan finished 24th and Darnell Bowsher finished 28th in the event.

On the women’s side, sophomore Noelle McKenzie finished 15th in the 1000-meter run. With a time of 3:02.4, McKenzie is now 0.42 seconds from breaking the program record which was set in 2002 by Tanesha Shelton.

WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS

The Owls finished fourth at the Fox Run Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center Arena.

The Owls, who finished with a score of 182.200, trailed behind New Hampshire (194.375), Minnesota (193.875) and Yale (187.525).

Senior Co-Captain Lindsey Stern finished 13th on the beam with a score of 9.550. Sarah Liebowitz scored a 9.400.

Nicole Catrambone had the best finish on bars with a score of 9.425. Freshmen Nikki Berrian and Natasha Crawford each placed among the top 20 scorers.

Sophomore Alycia Petitto received the highest score on vault with a score of 9.350. Sophomore Brittany Matthews and Catrambone tied for 18th place with a 9.325.

Junior Noelle Moore scored a 9.375 on the floor exercise.

The Owls will face city rival Penn tomorrow at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Temple opened its spring portion of its season by defeating Lehigh and Towson Sunday at Lehigh’s Lewis Tennis Center. The Owls are now 4-0 this season.

The Owls started the day winning two of three doubles contests against Lehigh.

Senior Ana Maslesa, juniors Yuri Kurashima and Barbara Oria Boer, sophomore Sharanya Pattabi and freshman Felicia Frazier all posted single wins in the Towson match.
