A former Pennsylvania prosecutor is suing former university employee Andrea Constand and her attorney’s for defamation, ABC News reported.
Bruce Castor, a former Montgomery County district attorney, chose not to pursue charges against former university trustee Bill Cosby in 2005 when Constand alleged she was sexually assaulted by Cosby.
Castor said Constand’s allegations against Cosby in 2005 had “too many inconsistencies” to pursue criminal charges, ABC reported. During the 2005 civil suit, Board of Trustees Chairman Patrick O’Connor defended Cosby.
Castor claims that Constand and her attorneys created a smear campaign against Castor, which he said cost him the 2015 Montgomery County District Attorney election to current District Attorney Kevin Steele.
Constand filed a civil suit against Cosby in 2005 after Castor decided to not file criminal charges against Cosby. He said Cosby paid Constand a settlement of “millions of dollars,” ABC News reported.
Constand’s attorneys also sued Castor for defamation a week prior to the 2015 election, which Castor said “destroyed” his political career.
Cosby will be retried in April 2018 where he is accused of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand.
