Police say two shootings Tuesday and Wednesday evening at Tioga Street and Old York Road near the Health Sciences Campus may be connected.
“On the surface we speculate a connection, but are awaiting more information from the investigation,” wrote Executive Director of Campus Safety Services Charlie Leone in an email Thursday afternoon.
“With the age of the victims being the same, the location being the same and the time of day, it led to speculating a relationship between the shootings,” Leone said in an email Saturday morning. “There isn’t anything substantial to connect the two.”
On Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. a 26-year-old man entered the Emergency Department of Temple University Hospital, Leone said. He told police he was shot in the ankle on Old York Road and was listed in stable condition, Leone added.
He said no other information was given by the victim.
On Wednesday, in the same area, a 28-year-old man was shot in the lower left leg at about 6:10 p.m. and was transferred to TUH and listed in stable condition, Leone said.
The victim told police he believed the gunshot came from a passing gray or silver van, but Leone said he did not give any other information to police.
“There wasn’t a lot of cooperation from the victims to gain more information,” Leone said, but police are continuing to investigate.
