It’s been an up-and-down season for Temple this spring.
The Owls opened the year on an eight-game losing streak, but rallied to win their next four matches. However, recently Temple began to falter again as it was blanked by Penn and Binghamton in its last two matches entering Thursday’s match against Lehigh.
But Temple was able to right the ship with a 5-2 victory on the road. The Owls got off on the wrong foot, losing the doubles point, but coach Steve Mauro said he saw some good things from his team.
“I thought we played well in doubles even though we didn’t get the point,” Mauro said.
Temple’s strong play carried over to singles, where the Owls got the results they were looking for, winning five of the six singles matches.
“All the guys just played really well,” Mauro said. “I was just really happy with the guys.”
Temple will next play city-rival Villanova and Mauro said Thursday’s win will help get his team going in the right direction again.
“I think this match will give us a lot of confidence moving forward,” Mauro said. “We look forward to playing one of our rivals.”
