The decor of El Azteca II is reminiscent
of a traditional Mexican homestead. Mismatched folk art adorns the walls, including a few drawings that seemed like they were created by child artists.
I sat at a table in the back of the restaurant, which I felt was like a VIP section since it was nearly deserted on a Tuesday night. A bus boy brought warm, delicious tortilla chips and mild salsa to the table.
The menu answers common questions about Spanish food and language. It explains that yucca is a Latin American vegetable similar to the potato. It also explains that the Pescado Borracho’s name literally means “drunk fish” in Spanish. The Pescado Borracho is a tilapia filet fried in butter, garlic and spices with a splash of tequila.
Other menu items include an assortment
of burritos, chimi-changas and enchiladas.
There are also delicious chilaquilas,
which are soft corn tortillas simmered in
salsa ranchera topped with shredded chicken
breast and white cheese. It’s also served with guacamole and lettuce.
Three margarita pitchers can be whipped up for every bottle of tequila you bring into the restaurant, for $7 each.
Flavors of margaritas available include peach, lime and strawberry. Large groups are welcome, but this restaurant wants to
keep things in order.
There are rules and even a “policy sheet” that is given out to parties of six or more.
This is a restaurant in high demand, reservations on the weekend are not guaranteed and there will always be someone
willing to take your spot. As long as
you don’t get too out of hand, a good
time can be had by all at this authentic
Mexican restaurant.
